Kendra is a junior at Drake University double-majoring in piano and violin performance. She currently studies violin and viola with Rebecca Vieker, piano with Dr. Nicholas Roth, and organ with Bobby Stinnett. She has over four years of teaching experience with all ages. Kenra enjoys teaching with traditional methods, as well as exploring alternative learning methods to find an individualized approach that works for each student.

I’m a proud mom of five, and our home is made even livelier with two dogs and two cats. I’ve lived in Ankeny for the past four years, where I enjoy gardening and exploring new walking trails around the area. Music has been a lifelong passion—I’ve played the violin for over 30 years, starting in 5th grade and continuing through college, including serving as concertmaster in a community orchestra. With more than 15 years of experience teaching violin, I’m deeply committed to making string education accessible for all students and believe strongly in the value of orchestra programs for every child.

I teach violin using the Suzuki books and method. I love helping young students start on their journey of learning to play the violin! I teach beginner and intermediate levels.

I started playing the violin at age three through the University of Northern Iowa Suzuki School of Music. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Music Education from St. Olaf College and hold a K-12 music teaching license. Over the years, I’ve had the joy of teaching band, orchestra, and general music in public schools, as well as providing private lessons in violin, viola, and cello to students from age three through adulthood. Since 2013, I’ve performed regularly with the Des Moines Symphony and stay active as a professional violinist throughout the Des Moines area. I teach all levels of violin, beginning-intermediate viola, and beginning cello and bass.
